Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

Single Purpose Declaration

ZFocus is a productivity tool designed to help users manage their time by limiting access to distracting websites. This is its sole purpose.

Data Collection

ZFocus does NOT collect any personal data.

We believe in complete privacy. Here's what that means:

  • No browsing history is collected or transmitted
  • No personal information is collected
  • No usage analytics are sent to external servers
  • No third-party tracking scripts are included
  • No data is sold or shared with anyone

Data Storage

ZFocus stores the following data locally on your device:

Settings (chrome.storage.sync)

Your blocked website lists, time limits, schedules, and preferences. This data can optionally sync across your Chrome browsers if you're signed into Chrome.

Statistics (chrome.storage.local)

Daily statistics including blocked attempt counts and time paused. Historical stats are kept for 30 days. This data stays on your local device only.

Timer Data (chrome.storage.sync)

Current timer states for active blocked sites.

All data remains on your device or within your personal Chrome sync account. No data is transmitted to ZFocus servers.

Permissions

ZFocus requires certain browser permissions to function. Each permission is used solely for the extension's core functionality:

storage

To save your settings, blocked website lists, and daily statistics locally on your device.

tabs

To monitor which websites you visit and apply blocking rules when a distracting site is detected.

alarms

To reset hourly time limits and schedule blocking periods.

sidePanel

To display the ZFocus side panel for quick access to focus settings and timer controls.

webNavigation

To detect page navigation events and apply blocking rules during in-page navigations.

idle

To detect when the user is idle and pause active-tab-only timers accordingly.

These permissions are used solely for the extension's core functionality and nothing else.

Third-Party Services

ZFocus does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

The extension includes optional, opt-in error monitoring (Sentry) to help developers fix bugs. This is disabled by default and only activated with your explicit consent. When enabled, only anonymous crash reports are sent -- no personal data, browsing history, or blocked site information is included.

Data Deletion

You can delete all ZFocus data at any time:

  1. Go to ZFocus Settings
  2. Click "Delete All Data"
  3. Confirm the deletion

Alternatively, uninstalling the extension will remove all locally stored data.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes.
